HOPE VALLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL 1992
Our first School Magazine contained a page of writing or pictures from all of our current students. Each page had to be printed twice because our photocopier didn't have a duplexing unit. The copier was in the library which is now our pre-primary/year one room. We had stacks of printed pages all over the place.

Some trees are extremely tall
But some are really rather small
I like to build cubbies in trees
And then sit in the shade
And have a sip of lemonade
Monica Miguel Yr 4
We break up, we make up at school
In the playground we're playing the fool
Sometimes we get hurt
A kid rips a shirt
So we have to play good at school
Kenneth Howells Yr 5

On Friday, 5th June 1992 we had a Pioneer's Day at school. In the olden days they stored all sorts of things in their shops. In our shop at the school the shop had a basket of buns, a bit of tea, butter, lemonade, cheese, vegetables and a few clothes and garments. In the olden days the shop was called a garner.
We also had olden day photographs which Mrs Pearson was in charge of. Some people had to hold a baby that cried if you took it's dummy out of it's mouth.
The next activity was a bush band with Mr Cameron. Mr Cameron played the guitar, while we played other instruments. I liked the bush band but the part I disliked was the noise that was the only problem we had.
We then went to the resouce centre where there were spinning wool, joining wool and brushing wool. I liked having a go on the spinning wheel but you really had to concentrate because it got very confusing.
Outside behind the resource centre was washing which you would get very wet and it was messy too. In the olden days they used such things as washing dolies and dolly pegs which are sometimes still used.
Then we went to look for some gold which is called prospecting. Mr Briggs buried gold and then explained what to do and how to do it. I had Sandy (a little preprimary). Then we claimed our spot and started to look for gold.
In the classroom with Mrs MacBurney it was very strict. Kenneth was dressed up as a convict and received the cane. He didn't really but the desk copped it. We all went and had a look around.
After all these activities we had lunch. We had some guests. some of the kids went over to talk to some of the old people. All of us had a sausage sizzle. We got a hot dog and a can of cool drink.
After lunch we had olden day sport. There was croquet, washing, sack race, hit Aunt Sally, potato and spoon race, acting as a chook (which you had to put a tennis ball between your legs), and rolling hoops. The easiest was hitting Aunt Sally because all you had to do was think it was Mr Cameron and my group hit Aunt Sally like a shot gun.
At the end of the day everyone was tired and went home, and I jumped into bed.
I also thought it was a good idea and that everyone should thank Mrs MacBurney.
Tahnee Mc Shane Yr 6
On the holiday we went looking for gilgies.
We drafted sheep and rode the motor bikes.
My cousin killed a sheep and he took the guts out of the sheep.
