SCHOOL MAGAZINE 1995
ITS TERRIFIC TO TRY
This year we produced our fourth School Magazine and it contained a page of written work from each child at the school.
Each edition has been bigger than the last with over 8,000 pages required for this issue.
Some happenings in 1995 were:
- GOLD won the faction athletics carnival.
- Our covered area was completed in January.
- Our stage was built in June.
- We won another debate.
- Children from our school raised $583.00 for Multiple Sclerosis in the annual MS Readathon.
- Andrew Vlahov showed us how to play basketball.
- The P&C funded canvas blinds for the verandah of the transportable.
- Mrs Steding worked with the year 3/4 and then the year 1/2 classes while their teachers were on long service leave.
- We participated in the interschool swimming carnival and our senior boys did very well.
- Snakefoot gave us a great live music performance.
- Our toilets were spruced up thanks to Fremantle Tiles and John Barrett.
- Twelve of our students took part in the District Science Challenge.
- Four year 7 students took part in maths extension activities at Kwinana S.H.S.
- Hayden Smith scored in the top two percent of students across Australia in the Westpac Maths Test.
- The year 4-7 camp was at Kalbarri this year.
Goals are Great
- Three players from the Football Development Trust showed us how to play football. A video was made of the session.
- A new air conditioner was fitted to the demountable which was our year 1/2 room. One of the old air conditioners was fitted to the staffroom.
- Book Fairs raised hundreds of dollars for our library.
- We participated in the Interschool Athletics Carnival organised by Oakford P.S. at Mundijong Oval.
- We barracked for the Fremantle Dockers for the first time.
- Mrs. Broome was Registrar while Mrs. Bell was on Long Service Leave.
- Our school priority was Self Esteem".
- We had our first Students of the Week. They were presented with a S.O.W. ribbon.
- A group of children from year 7 presented our second broadcast on radio FM 101. The prize for the best broadcast in 1994 was presented to the Hope Valley team at the end of last year. Well done students and Mrs. McBurney.
- We supported Care Australia and tasted "delicious" high protein biscuits at the same time.
- We had our second Scitech family night.
- The 50th anniversary of V.E. and V.J. days was celebrated.
- We had a lot of unwelcome visitors in the childrens hair.
- Industrial problems affected all Government Schools.
- All children from year 1 7 travelled to Kwinana to see Twisted Universe.
- We started recycling ice cream containers.

Our junior class looked really smart.

The year 5/6 group were a very happy bunch.

Gorgeous people at the gorges.
We travelled up to Kalbari as a cyclone was hovering in the north. The northern sky was an eerie reddy pink.

The camp had a magnificent outlook over the river and the facilities were great.
Some people were pretty good at pool.
